Why It Matters

When this work is worth doing

GFCI protection is one of the most cost-effective safety upgrades a home can get. Current code calls for it in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements, laundry areas, and outdoors — many older homes in our area are missing it in several of those places.

One useful distinction: if an existing outlet has stopped working, that is a troubleshooting and repair visit. If you want a new outlet added or an old one upgraded, that is this service. Either way, we can help — it just changes how we approach the visit.

What affects the price

Every home is different, so pricing is confirmed in a written estimate after the free in-person consultation. The main factors:

  • Number of outlets or switches involved
  • Whether new wiring runs are needed or devices are being replaced in place
  • Wall and ceiling access in finished rooms
  • GFCI and weather-resistance requirements
  • Smart-control setup and programming

FAQ

Outlets, Switches & GFCIs questions

Straight answers before you call or request a consultation.

Can you add an outlet on a wall that has none?+

Yes. We run new wiring to the location, cut in a proper box, and install the outlet with minimal disruption to finished walls.

Do my bathroom and kitchen outlets need to be GFCI?+

Under current code, yes — GFCI protection is required near water and in damp locations. If your home predates these requirements, upgrading is a quick and worthwhile safety improvement.

My outlet is dead — is this the right service?+

A dead outlet is a repair job, and we handle that under Electrical Repair & Troubleshooting. This page covers adding new outlets and upgrading existing ones. Either way, one call or one form covers it.

Can you install smart switches that work with Alexa or Google Home?+

Yes. We install smart switches and dimmers from the major ecosystems and make sure the wiring behind them — including neutral requirements — is correct.

Can you add an outdoor outlet for holiday lights or yard equipment?+

Yes. We install weather-resistant GFCI-protected outdoor receptacles with covers rated for use in the weather.
